This is the kind of music I imagine Sadie Plant was referring to when she coined the phrase "deep hurting techno". Or at least it would have been if this track had been around in 90s Warwickshire. According to one esteemed associate on r/industrialmusic:
"This felt like hearing industrial techno for the first time."
n0teeth is no stranger to big Waj and his dulcet tones, of course - there'll be a longer post further down the line about how his 2nd Gen project was the greatest British industrial band since Test Dept. (He's also a terribly pleasant chap! People who make terribly unpleasant music often are!) His clipped barks and wordless howls on this track lend an extra sting to an already seriously deep hurting industrial techno jam.
London heads may be Shocked (puns on this blog are always intended, no exceptions) to learn that I first heard "Shock" about five years ago at Slimelight of all places, and on the middle floor no less. Francesca Blackdeath 1334 on the decks, naturally - who else would bring this kind of weaponry to Slimes, never mind deploy it in the easy listening room? I remember needing a stiff drink and a sit down after dancing a gallon of sweat from my aching meatsuit after that one, lemme tell you. The next DJ's saccharine synthpop selections almost came as a relief after the onslaught of metal-crunching Serbian beats and primal Mancunian rage.
As I write this post with "Shock" jackhammering away in the background I am bursting with excitement to suit up and dance at an industrial techno night happening not far from my ends. If the scene was any stronger & healthier right now it could bend iron bars with its buttocks.
